David Castellani shares the next chapter in his Noetic label journey, with ‘AntiPull’

It’s been a big summer for modular synth aficionado David Castellani. He debuted at Chicago’s iconic Arc Festival in his former hometown and suited up alongside Colin Benders and ONYVAA for an incredible 360-degree experience live performance at Work in LA. Additionally, he also wrapped up production on his collaborative project ‘Hysteria Dichotic’ with AnnMarie Arcuri that combined techno, contemporary dance, modular synthesis and film. And on a personal tip, there was his wedding back in his birthplace of Italy in August.

Now refreshed and regrouped, he’s returned to the studio and found creative flow to craft the excellent ‘AntiPull’ EP. The title track is rugged machines rhythms from the get-go, before the track uncoils right down to bare boned bleeps for an off-kilter interlude, prior to the engine starting up again as the energy resumes. ‘AntiPush’ is equal parts immersive and fleet-footed, as Castellani builds a rolling industrial groove that soon shifts up the tempos as modulated layers of sound spiral in glorious formations. A dynamic jam made for peak-time moments.

"My newest release AntiPull consists of two sister cuts originating from the same recording session. On this record you’ll find heavy use of the Roland TR-909 on drums and the UDO Super-6 alongside one of my favorites, the Waldorf Iridium, which carries the bulk of the tonal duties. The contrasted tracks explore both a more linear, big-room vibe and a synth-heavy, funkier, expression of dancefloor music.
